We now have silent campaigners working behind the scenes to support this proposal....apparently.

No one I've spoken to believes this!
Save Croydon Librarieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09591102853589123927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6232134943658519167.post-64043709765150523582013-03-18T12:17:15.788+00:002013-03-18T12:17:15.788+00:00Am I missing something here? I thought Labour said they would tear up the outsourcing contract when they get back into power, so I assumed this meant that the running of the libraries would go back to where they are now - being run by the Council! So where has this co-op model suddenly come from? As had been said before neither co-op models or outsourcing to a company such as JL or GLL has ever been mandated by residents! What a complete mess! Come on Labour grow some balls (not Ed!) and kick these divestment schemes in to touch!Alan Wyliehttp://www.dontprivatiselibraries.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6232134943658519167.post-70398296401969581272013-03-15T09:41:49.782+00:002013-03-15T09:41:49.782+00:00Those following the saga of Croydon's librarie...Those following the saga of Croydon's libraries from a distance share your bafflement.

It beggars belief that the opportunity that has arisen is not one that has motivated the Council to take another look at delivering the Library Service through the democratically accountable public sector - not least because it is argued in 'The Guardian' article, below, that there is *a very strong value-for-money case* for in-sourcing services.

The Guardian : 25th February
A new vision for in-sourced and effective public services
http://www.guardian.co.uk/public-leaders-network/2013/feb/25/frances-ogrady-new-vision-public-services?CMP=EMCSOCEML657

But political manoeuvring rather than the *public good* seems to be the focus in Croydon.

Let's be clear: for-profit companies, whether it is John Laing or any other, exist to make profit. Insisting on imposing the outsourcing of a service, whose purpose is not to be a *business* but a service well run and accessible to all, does Croydon residents, and library users in particular, a huge disservice.

Why not use the setbacks that have arisen in the tendering process for a total rethink of library strategy, Croydon? You would be admired within and beyond your boundaries for showing such humility and sense.
Shirley Burnhamnoreply@blogger.com
